It’s not the question Zuko expected. At least, it doesn’t take the form he anticipated. 'Are you the Crown Prince,' Sokka asks, which is to say, 'Are you the Alpha child who disappeared, which is to ask, Why are you pretending to be an Omega when you are a monster?'
Zuko has to admit, it’s a clever work around - a way to ask what needs to be asked without coming too close to any exposed edges.
“No,” Zuko says carefully, then drowns under a wave of guilt. “I mean— yes. Once. I— Not anymore.” Which is to say, 'So much has changed, but underneath all of my shells I am still a pup sitting in front of a window, waiting to be wanted.'
Sokka makes a vague sound of agreement, looks away.(or the one where Zuko did not present an Omega, but is an Omega nonetheless.)
