It hadn’t been a big deal, Kim Dokja had thought, when he started feeling a little under the weather. It’d just been a sneeze. A cough. Maybe a bit of a runny nose. It still wasn’t a big deal when he’d gotten the fever later. These things happen. It’s not like he’s spent how-ever-many years taking care of himself and somehow never run into a cold. He’s made it work, dragged himself to work, and has done so multiple times over the course of his life. Shocker of shockers, he’s never died even once throughout this entire process. He can take care of himself.
Kim Dokja’s Company doesn’t seem to think so.

Yoo Joonghyuk is absolutely certain he’s never met this “Kim Dokja” before. But the man acts like he knows Yoo Joonghyuk. He isn’t showing any fear, instead babbling about the future, the forty sixth scenario, and normally Yoo Joonghyuk would have already thrown the anomaly to the monsters under the bridge, but now he’s hesitating.
Could it be?..
No. Demon King of Salvation hasn’t contacted Yoo Joonghyuk after giving him his stigma. Moreover, he promised they’d meet after 1863 regressions, so why now?..
And yet…
What else could be the source of the anomaly’s knowledge? The man is not a prophet, of that Yoo Joonghyuk is certain. He must have received the information the same way Yoo Joonghyuk did in his first round: from his sponsor.
There’s only one constellation foolish enough to give away something so valuable for free.Or: Yoo Joonghyuk remembers round zero and assumes his sponsor has taken another incarnation, namely Kim Dokja, behind his back. Yoo Joonghyuk is not bitter about it (he is).

The man had appeared to him, late at night, his golden eyes peering at him from the darkness. Dokja thought it was his sleep paralysis demon coming to finish what his father started, laying on the floor, breathing through his mouth as he chokes on the blood sliding down his mouth, and dripping from his nose in a small puddle.
“Kim Dokja,” he whispered, kneeling before his battered form, eyes wide and hand hovering over him. Kim Dokja was busy trying to figure out if the demon that haunts him just became real or if God sent down his scariest angel just to torment him a little longer.
The man touches his cheek, couldn’t flinch if Dokja wanted to, his hands are cool. Dokja preferred it that way, his mother’s hands are cold, and his father’s hands are hot iron of hell fury— taking it out on any living being in the vicinity.

Yoo Joonghyuk is there to watch Kim Dokja grow up. He finds a lot more about his companion than he ever thought.

Of course Kim Dokja awoke feeling worse than before. From childhood all the way to adulthood, he had never been able to bounce back easily from anything. Often, his one sick day would turn into a week, bedridden and miserable.
He figured some of it was due to his poor health. Too skinny, always weak. There was no way a person like that could build a strong immune system. It was unfair. But then he figured, the rest of it might be due to his lack of self care. (Surely there was a reason books and tv shows always showed sick people getting pampered with soups and cool towels. )
Though in his defense—no one ever taught him how.
