Outside, everything feels sinister. He's reminded of why he hates the fall- every step brings noise, cracks of dry twigs and crunching leaves, sounds that feel much too stark against the much too quiet night air.
There is no wind. There is nothing.
Nothing, except his own footsteps, and Shrike.
The feeling from last week comes back; the feeling that something is wrong.
He just has to look. He just has to look at whatever the fuck this is, and agree it's cool, and then they can go back and he can make some excuse and drive around town until he feels brave enough to go back home. And they never have to do this again.

For every trial, for every task,
there is a corresponding mask.
A frown, a smirk, a pout, a grin,
They shield the soul contained therein.
But masks and faces, and manners too,
disguise the single face that’s true.
The face that’s under the facade,
the one the foolish, charmed and awed,
profess to see, to claim to know,
although they’ve never seen it show.
And so they pry through charm and guile,
in hopes to see what’s ‘neath that smile.
However, they are unaware,
that mask and face are not a pair.
For those that pry soon come to find
they don’t like what’s hiding behind,
because the face once locked within,
might not be that charming grin.
And thus the wise are dread to ask
to see what’s there beneath the mask.

Summary
He falls in a multichrome void, eyes closed and Eye wide open, a sharp stab of color through a cornea surreal in being and in mind. There is pain that shines bitter white through his heart and as he feels the shifting colors bleed through him (dyed water through flower petals, a slice of a star shining in agony) he feels something shift, something tangible in this place where not even he is real. All at once, Jon dissolves and solidifies, and his eyes—real, physical, seeing eyes—open.
Jon wakes up and finds that nothing is as it should be. His coworkers--friends, here, apparently--are concerned over his strange scars and behavior. Not only that, but teaching a college-level class, dealing with new fears and avatars, and coping with the fact that his Martin isn't here... it's all a bit overwhelming. It's good he isn't on his own, even if the people he used to know are so different here.

Jonathan Sims is a perfectly normal co-worker, thank you very much.
He does not, as much as Colin would have anyone believe, 'know things he shouldn’t', nor does he 'stare too much' or 'ask questions no one can refuse'. Quite frankly, Colin is the unstable co-worker here, and Jon would appreciate it if everyone else agreed with him.
He is most certainly not from another universe, and he most certainly didn't bleed out in his lover's arms. That's absurd.
Jonathan Sims is a perfectly normal co-worker, and the voices in the computers mean nothing to him.
