“Move to London!” Quynh had said. “It’ll be great! Andy and I will be just around the corner, we’ll see each other all the time!” And then, as soon as Joe had tacked up his posters onto the wall of the cramped shoebox studio that was all he could afford, Quynh and Andy had announced the purchase of their new house in Oxfordshire, decamping with what Joe considered to be unholy speed.

“It’s because of my nephew,” Nicky started. His new friend raised an eyebrow, gesturing for him to go on. “I was babysitting last week, and my sister gave me one job: to get him to eat the stewed broccoli she’d left. He’s still not got the hang of talking just yet, but he said he didn’t like broccoli. I asked if he’d tried it, and he said no, and I asked how he could be sure if he’d never tried.”
“Ah,” the man said, grinning. “Let me guess: You realized you’ve never tried sex with a man, so how could you be sure you’re really straight?”
“It seemed a rather blatant hypocrisy,” Nicky confessed.

The first time he’d done this, he had told Joe about ten times how it wasn’t necessarily a pleasurable experience like most vampire literature made it out to be. Nicky had apparently not even enjoyed drinking from humans in the past.
He’d been right— mostly. For Joe, the pleasure in it comes from having Nicky in his arms, providing for him in a way no one else can, feeling Nicky go from hungry to sated right against him.
When he’d finished drinking from Joe that first time, Nicky’s pupils had been blown so wide, eyes so glassy, that Joe couldn’t help but preen.
He can’t help it. He loves being Nicky’s favourite meal.
