If newborn dragon hatchlings are abandoned for any particular reason (the mother could've been killed, certain species of dragons bury their eggs in the sand to fend for themselves once they hatch, etc), they will immediately adapt to the environment so that their chances of survival are guaranteed. This can mean burying themselves even further into the sand, becoming invisible, or even shapeshifting.

"No?" Emilia’s brow knits in confusion. “She adopted her name after the famous philosopher born beyond the Great Waterfall who ended up here 400 years ago. You already knew that, Subaru."

She had thought that falling asleep would be effortless. She was back in her childhood home—in the chambers of her youth, of her innocence. There were still dolls in the trunk at the foot of her bed, buried beneath blankets. Mayhaps that was what was preventing her from falling asleep. These rooms belonged to a different little girl. Not the maiden she was.
Unable to sleep, Sansa seeks comfort in another room, another bed.

The first time that Jaime Lannister saw a ghost, it was in the bowels of Casterly Rock.
The fact that there was a ghost in the Rock wasn’t a surprise, Jaime had grown up hearing tales about how Lann the Clever had tricked the Casterlys into believing that their home was haunted and stole their home, sigil, and wealth. His cousins were always certain to also add the part that supposedly Lann the Clever still haunts the halls of the Rock as a ghost, scaring away intruders and smothering Lannisters unworthy of his name.
The fact that was surprising was that he barely noticed that it was a ghost.

House Lannister is the next oldest Great House after the Starks, whose founder was cousins with Bran the Builder, and originally of the First Men. What if Jaime got some of those nifty old powers?
