Peter feels the unease for the first time in the middle of Mr. Stark's speech.
At first he assumes it's someone in the crowd, someone with a vendetta against Tony Stark. There's always someone with a vendetta against Tony Stark, someone planting a bomb under the podium he's speaking from, someone with a knife concealed under their clothes, someone sneaking in a can of red spray paint to write MERCHANT OF DEATH on the walls-
Peter is used to that. Those kinds of things activate his spidey-sense, give him time to intervene before anything can actually happen.
This sudden unease isn't his Spidey sense, though.
It's quiet. A whisper, more than a warning.

It was five minutes into the drive back to the Tower that something inside Steve's mind clicked.
“Wait a minute,” Steve said out loud.
Natasha glanced at him. “What?”
“Peter can kick a guy across the room, but he can't throw Tony off him?” Steve asked, mentally replaying the way Tony had playfully manhandled Peter.
Natasha shrugged. “He could.”
Steve furrowed his brows. “But he didn't.”
“Why would he have?” Natasha raised a brow at Steve.
Steve didn’t know how to answer that.
(Or: 3 times Tony was the exception for Peter +1 time he was STILL the exception from Steve's perspective)

Afterwards Rocky reassured me that it is pretty common for pebbles to earn their first nicks and cracks at that age. Their outer shell isn’t fully developed yet and not quite as hard as that of an adult. He proudly showed me various indents and hairline fractures on his own body, telling me about how he got them in his youth during adventures with his friends or just messing around.
It’s a sign of growth, he told me. A sign of getting older and maturing.
Not a big deal. Happens all the time.
I believe him. Tori was in good spirits afterwards. Their crying was more because of the shock and the scare, not any actual pain. We finished the rest of the day without any further incidents and then I wished them all a happy holiday and returned to my home and got into bed.
Where I stayed for the next eighteen hours.

“Hi,” he says, trying out the word. He sounds snotty and sleepy. “Sorry to bother you. I think… I-I think someone el-else needs to watch my group.”
There’s silence on the other end.
“Why?” is all that comes next.
Inconvenience.
He’s always an inconvenience.
Ryland sucks in a deep breath that leaves him coughing. “I don’t feel… I d-don’t feel very well, and… I t-threw up, and I…”
His voice gives out before he can finish.

En route to Erid, the Hail Mary picks up a signal from an unknown object. It turns out to be a ship– an impossibly HUMAN ship, nearly 12 light-years away from anywhere that might make sense. Curiosity kills the cat, Grace and Rocky get a little bit more than they bargained for, and the Hail Mary might just have a new crewmate.
If he lives, that is.
