Right. "I mean, uh, tell him…eventually?" Eddie guesses when Pepa doesn't respond to him and instead stares at him like he's just started speaking Pig Latin.
"Ay," Pepa says in an exasperated little huff. "We used to have romance."
Pepa teaches Eddie how to woo Buck. Buck doesn't quite get the picture.

“No, no,” Eddie says, shaking his head, his hair brushing against the side of Buck’s face. “If you wanna spend your hard earned money on fancy ass flowers, I’m not gonna stop you.” He nuzzles into Buck’s neck, his stubble scratching against his skin.
“It’s nice,” he says, his voice muffled. “No one’s ever bought me flowers before.”
Buck copes with unrequited love by maladaptive daydreaming, buying Eddie flowers, and lying to the farmers market vendor about his imaginary husband.

or...Finally together, Buck and Eddie navigate their developing relationship. Eddie’s laughter at the thought of sex and Chris’s passive aggressive mixed signals don’t help a spiraling Buck’s mourning of an imagined loss of friendship. Eddie thinks, as he munches on a fry, that he’s angry. He’s angry that Buck was ever wronged, that Buck even felt he had to give him that look. He’s angry that he can’t just fix it, that he’s not good at fixing things but he’s really good at messing things up. He’s angry because he’s afraid of failing when Buck needs him.
He’s angry at Buck because he’s not here, and he’s angry because it’s easier than grief, because Eddie thinks this might be a type of grief. Because he misses Buck when he’s right there, because Eddie thinks this might be another thing like all the other things he needs to deal with, the things he pushes down so deep because just letting them sit around is enough to hurt.

And here’s the thing. If Buck was paying just a little more attention, he probably would’ve clocked what the pain in his middle meant a lot sooner. It wouldn’t change the outcome, sure, but he’d at least be ahead of the curve.
The worst part is that it’s all rather obvious in retrospect, because the signs are all there. The flickering lights. The gymnasium air rippling and warping like heat off pavement. The dark patches on everyone’s suits and dresses.
He should’ve seen it.
But all he sees is Eddie. Everything else is just white noise and set dressing.
