“Oh, this?” Helen pats the horse. “It’s a horse.”
Clearly, Artem thinks. It hadn’t been the answer he was looking for, and it didn’t make things any less confusing, either. He looks from his couch, to the horse, to the front door, then back to the horse again. “How did you get it inside?”
“That’s easy.” Helen turns to knock on the horse. “It’s collapsible.”
A sneezing noise sounds from somewhere — somewhere suspiciously close to the horse. Helen stiffens. A muffled ‘bless you’ sounds from the same location.
Artem raises his eyebrows.

Yes, Senior Attorney Artem Wing can see ghosts.
He could see ghosts and hid the ability for as long as he could remember. That was his life and, frankly, it was a good one. No one but Neil knew about his ability (and even then, he was still skeptical), he had a crush on a coworker for the first time in his life, and no ghosts had ever come to haunt him.
He just never expected to see Giann von Hagen back in the NXX office.

“No, it’s just…” She makes a vague gesture. “I can’t believe you’ve put so much effort into this. I know we’re partners, but…” She slides the spreadsheet back. “Isn’t this too much? I mean, you’re putting so much time and money and work into this.”
Too much? Artem looks back at the spreadsheet. “No, these dishes don’t take too much work. Not if I make them the night before. And there are always leftovers, anyway.”
She arches a brow, an unfortunate habit Artem recognizes as his.
“At least try it out for one week,” Artem says.
She holds his gaze for another moment, then sighs. “Fine.”

Ria looks at him, and Luke can’t help but be pulled out of his thoughts, caught instead by the shining starlight in her eyes. There’s happiness, there’s shock, but most of all there’s recognition.
“It’s you,” Ria says, voice awed. “It’s really you.”
Luke is taken aback. “I—”
“Oh, Ms. Ria,” Winnie looks between the two of them curiously. “Do you know Detective Luke?”
“Yeah,” Ria blinks for a moment, as if taking note, before nodding with a smile. “Yeah, this is Luke. He’s my best friend.”
She said ‘he’.
She said his name.

Luke is reunited with his childhood best friend, but he’s not exactly the same as how she knew him before. And yet, immediately, she recognizes him, she asks nothing of him, she accepts him.
He can’t help but wonder how?
