Summary
“It was you,” he says again. Only this time, he doesn’t phrase it as a question. “You saved me.”
Flins closes his eyes, leaning into his touch with a sigh, the sound leaving him like the last bit of his resistance.
“Do you think me a monster?” He asks, bending down a fraction.
“I think,” Illuga says, coming up on his toes, searching his face as if he could see the beautiful and terrible reality lying beneath. “I didn’t much mind the feeling of dying, if it was in your arms.”

Summary
Dottore laughs—one of those small, dark chuckles that makes Pantalone’s hackles raise and sends a thrill through him at the same time. “The rules are simple. You take what I give you, whatever I give you. And you do so with that—” he nods down at the mora Pantalone still clutches, “—in your mouth. An hour on the clock, and if you haven’t dropped it or swallowed it by the end, you win. Simple, yes?”
Pantalone barely keeps his expression neutral. A humiliating hour with Morax’s flesh lying heavy on his tongue, warming to his body while Dottore uses him for whatever carnal pleasures and blood sports he desires. He could slip and swallow it in the worst-case scenario, and then he’d have to beg the man to slice him open and carve out that misplaced, cursed coin.
He’s tempted to say no.
But he doesn't, because the two of them don't do forfeits.

Summary
The thing about taking care of Ayato is that, to do it properly, Thoma has to frame the endeavor as a pretense. It's a delicate dance to choreograph, but the end result is always worth it.

Summary
New clan patriarch Kamisato Ayato stands alone at the top of the world. The world—or the only parts of it that matter—of course being the remaining scraps of his family reputation, a chief retainer of dubious trustworthiness, and his beloved, innocent, grieving younger sister. Of course it doesn't take long for the dogs to smell blood and come baying at the door. They just don't expect the sword at his hip to be sharper than any of their teeth.
And he doesn't expect for the true danger to lie within the shivering confines of his own mind. In the end, it seems that his body is going to force him to decide who to put his trust in sooner rather than later.

Summary
The water begins rippling again, this time much closer to his boat. For a moment, Phainon isn't sure what he's looking at—and then he chokes on his own tongue as the most beautiful man he's ever seen surfaces.
The man—the creature—brushes his hair out of his face. When he looks at Phainon with his golden eyes, Phainon shivers, sword nearly forgotten. He understands, now, why the heroes of myths tied themselves to their boats in siren-infested waters. He feels no better than them in this moment.
