"You gotta give me somethin," Jim practically pleaded. He was hesitant to push the kid, but he didn't want to see Steve dead on the side of the road after another drunk driving incident, or splayed out on the bathroom floor from alcohol poisoning. Something had to give.
Maybe something had. Steve's shoulders had started to shake—He was crying silently into his knees. Carefully, Jim set a hand onto his back, rubbing gently when Steve leaned into it. They spend a long few moments like that before Jim dared to speak again.
"Kid, why do you do this to yourself?"

There were some advantages to being a Harrington: a big lake house on an island, any girl he wanted, an invite to every party in town. But the summer after he graduated Steve didn’t want any of that. He wanted a quiet summer with his best friend and the smart-ass kids he babysits, before he becomes the newest nepo baby at his father’s company. And maybe, just maybe, he wanted the newest employee at the Half Moon Arcade.
There were some advantages to being the town freak. Access to the best weed, first off, and an invite to every party to sell it, all the gay sex he could want, as long as he never told a soul, and an excuse to get the sickest tats he could think up. None of it was what Eddie needed though, which of course just sent him tumbling back for more. But the Munson Doctrine was very clear: don’t fall in love.

Jason acknowledges the warm curl of something in his middle, fascinated, mapping still. He replays what Eddie said a few times, knows he can replicate that charm pretty well.
‘OK, then.’ He opens his pad. ‘My first question—’
‘Say my name.'
He looks up. ‘Sorry?’
Mild as milk, Eddie repeats his words. ‘Say my name.’
Jason clears his throat, back of his neck hot. ‘Eddie Munson.’
‘Just the first part.’
‘Eddie.’
‘Again.’
‘No.’
Eddie smirks. ‘You say it how he says it. Your co-star.’
Jason can’t fathom how he knows that. ‘We are not discussing him.’

Summary
When Eddie Munson wakes from a month-long coma, the apocalypse has already started without him. The air is poisonous and monsters roam the streets of a half-destroyed Hawkins, but he's also got problems of a more personal nature: For one thing, Eddie's so weak he can barely walk on his own, and he's pretty sure there's something wrong with him, like, emotionally.
For another, there's the fact that Steve Harrington has begun turning into some kind of vampiric Upside Down creature. Also, he's into men apparently, and more specifically: into Eddie. So there's that.
The way Eddie sees it, that leaves him with three problems to solve - one, saving the world, ergo destroying the Demobats' nest in the Rightside Up, and closing the cross of rifts splitting the town. Two, saving his friends, so waking Max from her coma, and guiding Steve (read: domming Steve) into figuring out his new vampiric powers without hurting anyone, or getting his head blown off by their very trigger-happy "allies". And three: figuring out what it really means to care for someone, and how far he's willing to go for the man he's rapidly becoming unhealthily obsessed with.
Here's to turning into the monsters people always said they were.
