Summary
He was hoping Treville would agree with him and tell him he shouldn’t dance with Milady after all. But he knew it was an empty line of reasoning and an empty hope.

“I’m stopping here. This is ridiculous. The horses are tired, as are we.” she yells at him.
He hears the desperation in her voice, but he also feels his heartbeat speed up as old memories flash before his eyes, reminding him of why he isn’t supposed to be here. And for a second he considers ignoring Sylvie. He knows she would just ride to Pinon on her own, and tomorrow she would be pissed, but it would save him the humiliation, and it would save him a lot of nightmares that would surely follow him into this cursed night.
