He remembers thinking it at nine years old after snapping Lewis Frankel's neck. He remembers thinking it after Soldier Boy ruined his chance of being in Beverly Hills Cop. He remembers thinking it as his skull was smashed in by the same man who had taken everything from him.
Now, here he is, forty years later. Despite being broken, the same whispering self-doubt has managed to cling onto whatever husk that's still left of him, murmuring a tiny, ‘was stopping him worth it?’
Noir shoves the thought down like every other time.
He doubts that the whole ordeal with Starlight and The Deep will affect anything. It was just one awkward moment he stumbled into by accident. How much could that possibly change for him?

A rewrite of The Boys from Black Noir's POV if he had accidentally interrupted Starlight and The Deep's first meeting.

Pissed but knowing his duty, Dean pulled Sam out school during exam week, and they went to Windom in the thick of the Minnesota winter. 7-yr-old Adam was a lot like Sammy at that age, but Dean wasn't ready to accept him as another Winchester. Then the boy's life was threatened and all bets were off.
Written for Round 2 of spn_illuminated's 2012 reverse mini-bang, based on art prompt "Child's Play" by tattooeddevil. How could I resist a kid with a belly like this?
