Ren was losing his hearing. It was something that was happening, and that he was actively ignoring. His life remained pretty unaffected by it either way, so it wasn't like he needed to do anything about it.
He was okay. He could withstand some pain as long as it meant he had a failsafe to not turn back into that beast again.

He didn't want to back to the dark corner of his room, hating himself for destroying everything and everyone around him.

He could not tell with his lack of experience, but the one thing he was sure about was that he was hungry. He was ravenous. He was starving for touch.

"Jo’s voice is in his ears and skull and bones, vibrating in his chest and through his esophagus and up into Sakura’s brain. He mouths absently at the neck-line of Jo’s hood and rubs the pattern of the stitches between his top teeth and the tip of his tongue, his mind slipping even further away from coherence as Jo begins to sway him gently. His breath hitches, more tears bubbling out of him with little gasping cries, but everything feels so much softer now.
Being in Jo’s lap feels like sitting in a cloud, a safety net, a shock blanket to keep him insulated from the elements. He feels like the sort of home Sakura used to scream into his floor at night and beg for. His pillows never made up for what he was desperately clawing for, which was this, this-this-this. Sakura rocks in tandem with Jo’s gentle soothing, breaths hollowing around a wheezing, trapped wail that he tries to keep inside."
