“It’s me, Diluc. Please stop crying,” Kaeya said.
It wasn’t just that easy. His mind was still trying to convince him that this wasn’t real, that none of it was. His soul was departing, leaving Diluc’s last fleeting memories to be with the person he wanted to see the most. The tears were merely a manifestation of that ceaseless battle.
“Tell me–” he tried again, stuttering. “Tell me you’re real.”
Diluc found that it was easy to forget who Venti really was until he was faced with the full power of Barbatos.

Summary
He needs something grand.
He needs something meaningful.
Reaching his bedside, Childe’s gaze falls to the pile of equipment stacked beside it — armour, weapons, potions and oils — and it’s all so obvious.
Morax was known as a god of martial arts. What better an offering to a god so gifted in battle than a weapon? Weapons are great. He remembers fondly the first shortsword his father gifted him, how proud he’d been, a gift that acknowledged his potential as a warrior, an adventurer, or whatever fanciful ideas his innocent head held at the time.
Zhongli doesn’t need his potential acknowledging, but perhaps it will rather serve as an acknowledgement of his past, to tell him that Childe accepts his identity as Morax, and that perhaps they might start anew.
With a satisfied hum, Childe sets to work.
In which Childe lavishes Zhongli with gifts to make amends for the part he played in the Osial incident.
Unfortunately, some of them don’t quite hold the meaning he intends them to.

“But I already have another job.”

How did this rumor come about? Zhongli doesn't know. All he knows now is that everyone in Liyue now believes he's the son of Rex Lapis. While it was just something minor and at first and he's glad his identity as the Prime Adeptus hadn't been compromised, the misunderstandings soon keep piling in one after another. All the while, his mortal companion through it all, Childe, is enjoying his confusion and misery at his expense. Perhaps was this his payback for his betrayal to the young Eleventh Harbinger?
All this attention was the exact opposite of what he wanted when he went through with his final contract. Just where did his quiet and peaceful retirement go?
