This is the first time he’s seen the dizi up close, inert, and even without the resentment that clings to it when Wei Ying plays, it reeks of power on a level equal to the highest-level spiritual swords at the very least. It is more than obviously a first-class spiritual tool, and he has to wonder where Wei Ying found such a thing. “This is your Chenqing?”

He doesn’t know what it is – doesn’t know what it even could be, in that short of a time. He looks Lan Wangji up and down, studying his posture, his appearance, his general demeanor; everything about him looks the same – pale blue and pristine, gleaming white, even in the dank and dust here – but he is wrong, somehow. Dimmer. Resplendent still, yes, but not quite so radiant. He shouldn’t be here, and he shouldn’t be like this.
