The hordes of undead wandered aimlessly nearby, too nearby. Too close to the Mayor. That was unacceptable. Ryker would deal with them so his Mayor could wake up without fearing for her life. She was to be protected at all costs.
Ryker wakes up and goes and kills all the zombies and creatures nearby to keep their Mayor safe for totally normal reasons.
