Summary
On the day Voldemort invades the Ministry of Magic, thus revealing his return to the general public, Percy goes to work at the ministry. He works late, as usual. Then Percy goes to work again. He would come to regret this, at least if he could remember it, or anything at all, really.
Or, Percy is working in the Department of Mysteries on a contract basis when fallout from the battle happening on the other side of the door pushes him back through time. And that is only the beginning of his problems.

When Mr. Filch turns to alcohol to dull his grief over Mrs. Norris's petrifaction, Percy is saddled with the duty of escorting the drunk man home from the Hog's Head Inn. The rest of the school year brings fear and grief, but at the Hog's Head Inn, Percy finds camaraderie with the black sheep.

Percy let the pride of successfully winning Professor McGonagall's trust carry him along the dark road to the edge of the village. He was the only one who could do this job. Percy needed this, needed ways to stand out to achieve his goals. And though he fleetingly wished Penny had been off duty and able to accompany him, his future was better served this way.After entering the pub, Percy quietly shut the door behind him and looked around the nearly empty room. (It was strategy, not cowardice, that had him hoping to avoid notice.)
"Go back to school, boy. I don't sell to students sneaking out of the castle."
An old man stepped out of the shadows, still drying his hands on a stained apron. His glower reminded Percy of his mother when the twins exploding something forced her to leave a delicate cooking spell unattended.

Summary
In which Scabbers the rat becomes a pet, Bill and Charlie lie to their younger sibling for everyone's sanity, and Molly is holding it all together, even if it kills her.
Excerpt:
Percy finally exhausts himself and quiets down to pitiful whimpers. With his positioning, the floor muffles most of the sound.
“Hey, Perce.” Charlie kneels beside his brother and reaches out slowly to stroke the crying boy’s rather sweaty hair. “It’s okay.”
Finally, a reaction. A sullen eye turns to glare at the attempted comfort. “No, it isn’t. It’s not ever gonna be okay ever again! Never, never, never. Never.”
Yikes. Well, then, maybe Charlie needs to be a bit more careful about this.
“So are ya just going to be a crybaby on the kitchen floor forever, or are you going to tell me what happened?”
