  1. Summary

Four lives, bound by blood and choice, trace the paths of flight and fall through a world of oaths, blades, and intwined legacies.

The sparrow, young and untested, seeks to rise on merit, though shadows of disgrace and disappearance weigh him down. The swallow, exiled and elusive, soars far from home, building fragile refuge — until whispers from the north pull him into old storms. The crow, steady and watchful, wields wisdom and quiet strength, shadowing allies with unknowable intentions. The falcon, proud but broken, fights to regain his wings, haunted by a shattered soul and an oath that binds tighter than any chain.

Through deserts and seas, courts and battlefields, their stories entwine, scarred by choices as they seek redemption, vengeance, or belonging. Together, their journeys form a hymn of flight and fall, of branches that may hold or break under their weight.

Will they rise to meet the winds, or will the storms bring them crashing down? Their lives are the song; their choices, the branch.

All four stories are from my “The Sea of Swords” setting, but you don’t need to have read that series to enjoy “Song & Branch.”

  2. Summary

One captain’s defiance against Luskan’s corrupt rulers ignites a revolution that threatens to tear Faerûn apart. As pirates seek vengeance and rebellions spread, the thin line between order and chaos vanishes. Loyalties fracture, blood is spilled, and a storm of ambition and violence sweeps the Sword Coast.

In a world collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions, survival means navigating a sea of betrayal, destruction, and unintended consequences.

  3. Summary

Egypt 1798. The French Armée d’Orient has arrived in Egypt, much to the locals’ bemusement. What starts as a triumphant conquest of a city devolves into a diplomatic disaster with disappearing generals, friendly fire, mutinies, experimental hash dens, and the sinking (no pun intended) feeling that “Bring your own fleet” was not a polite suggestion. A series of unfortunate events told through seven stories involving letters, reports, and lots of cursing.

    Summary

This is not a rewrite overhaul of the book, The Age of Scoripus by Milo Winter. This is a writing exercise on scenes that I found lacking or poorly delivered. Take this as a journal of outlines, edits and so forth. I'm open to critique on my own writing, as well as hearing out any new ideas I could incorporate into my exercise.

My goal for some of these rewrites is to create a more threatening entity that is the Stellarium. I've completely removed the idea of Scorpio being the oppressive regime, returning to an old idea of Milo's (The Zodiac Turner, 2017) where the Gemini were the oppressive force and the Scorpio were the oppressed. I've created a coalition between Gemini and Aries by also using the mural history from The Age of Scorpius and molded that into Gardian history to explain why Gemini-Aries are a ruling body.

If you'd like to know more, I'm happy to start outlining all my ideas and posting them here in chapters.

    Summary

Not cut out for a high-pressure life, aspiring novelist Bob Reynolds dropped everything to rebuild his fractured identity. With survival as her only focus, Russian immigrant Yelena Belova had never stopped running since the death of her sister five years ago.

They both found themselves in the quiet town of Marceline, Missouri. Its quaint shops, ice cream parlor, and glittering cinema house provided the perfect distraction for memories to fade and an anonymous correspondence to flourish.

Their meeting was inevitable. Their future, uncertain—at least until they could reach level ground. But once the smoke cleared and their true selves were revealed, could they live with what remained?

Or: Bob and Yelena were anonymous pen pals who disliked each other in person but were secretly in love through their letters.

1916 AU set against the backdrop of Disney Parks Main Street USA. Loosely inspired by the 1940 film “The Shop Around the Corner.”
