Summary
It becomes a routine. Changing up the time that he sneaks into the kitchen only works once, and then after that the Cook starts sleeping in the kitchen. Impertinent!
No matter how quiet he is, they always wake up and catch him. Then he’s forced to consume ‘a responsible amount of fuel’, as determined by the Cook.
He doesn’t like eating. It feels like a waste of time, and it often leaves him feeling nauseous. He’s always been a picky eater, and military rations are difficult for him.
Then he realizes that if he can convince the Cook to hate him, they probably won’t care about whether or not he eats. Unfortunately, very little seems to bother them.
