1 Jokers Wild, 2 Dancing for Stars, 3 A Chill Wind Blowing, 4 Lost GodsIstus. Pan. The Raven Queen. Each of them have their chosen ones among the Seven Birds.
But unbeknownst to the crew, Davenport was also chosen to serve a god: one whose patronage he doesn't understand, one whose designs he will spend a lifetime grappling with.
This is the story of Captain Davenport, unwilling emissary of the God of Pranks.
A wonderful story focusing on Davenport. For those of us who know nothing about Gnomes or Gods of DnD beyond our exposure to TAZ, this is fascinating and fresh. It's an amazing time and I wholeheartedly reccomend it.
I loved seeing everyone else keep growing and changing; loved seeing Merle's tested faith survive, Lucretia struggle to place things in others' hands, Kravitz place the 'not useful' parts of himself out there for the Queen to see, Angus show some scale, Taako facing consequences for being an asshole and acknowledging it, the struggle with putting faith in things you can't guarantee represented by a twenty sided die that can turn you into a dog if you fuck up, Hekuba getting to be a character of her own, Merle's kids growing up, the end of long held animosities between peoples in the name of growth and a better future, characters who can recognize when a person is acting out of character and likely Charmed and will thusly express doubt about their behavior and aspire to set it to rights, multiple struggles with the sense of belonging in both species and community and in new groups like jobs or hobbies, seeing someone learn to laugh and forget and laugh again, this time out of choice.This was one of those sleep ruining fics that fucked up my schedule and whole heartedly gets to live safe and sounds in my bookmarks as a favorite for years to come.
Captain Dwimly Drew True-Blue Wrenchfell Cloch Utirhant Cap'nport Davenport is the gnome to know.
