"I can't give you what you need." The simple sentence was like a wrecking ball, and for a moment he couldn't even breathe. He wanted to deny it, insist that she was all he needed. Lydia was more important than lacrosse, than food or even air. If she meant what he thought she meant, his whole world was about to be empty.
"... are you..." He swallowed hard, trying not to grip so tightly that he hurt her. "Are you breaking up with me?"
"Of course not, don't be ridiculous." The answer was quick and firm, with no hint of a lie anywhere on her. Relief made him collapse a little, and it was only because he was leaning against her that he stayed upright. "Honestly. Sometimes you say the stupidest things." Her arms laid over his, squeezing him back in another, silent reassurance. "I guess I could have worded that better. I can't give you everything you need."

Summary
The first thing Stiles remembers is the cold. He is so cold and shivering. It is dark and suddenly it feels like someone pulls him out underwater.
The next thing he knows, he is sitting in a pile of gauze, his dad and Peter looking at him. He is confused about what is going on. How did he end up there? Where is he even? There is yelling around him but he can only concentrate on how cold he is feeling.
A blanket is wrapped around his shivering body, and Stiles turns to see Peter there.
“What’s going on?” Stiles asks, as he grips the blanket like his life depends on it.
“It’s him,” Peter says with a relieved sigh as he turns to look at the sheriff.
“Oh thank god,” Stiles’ father sighs as he pulls Stiles in a hug.

Summary
“Stiles,” Peter’s voice is low, soft but direct. It draws Stiles out from wherever he’d gone, blinking back into the present.
“What.” Stiles looks up at Peter from beneath his lashes. If he had been looking anywhere else, he would have missed the slight twinge in Peter’s face, an eyebrow twitching up, the corners of his mouth tipped in a subtle smirk.
“You seem oddly quiet.”
“I’m focused.”
There’s only one goal in mind, one that doesn’t include sitting around and drinking tea until he gets too lost in his thoughts. There’s no time to dwell on them right now anyway.
“Thanks for the tea,” Stiles clips, standing up and moving to leave.
Peter rounds the island, and again, he catches Stiles by the arm, except Stiles isn’t pulling away now. He’s too tired to fight. “It’s storming outside; there’s no point, it’s not out there.”
