“What are you seeking, Marcy? What is it that we could not give?”
Anne asked, her voice breaking. Her throat tightened as if trying to suffocate her, to push back the scream that wanted to tear out of her chest. Their eyes met. Anne saw the exhaustion, the pain, the guilt it held… yet still, that same stubbornness.
Those eyes drove Anne crazy. What was it? What hadn’t she done? What hadn’t she given? What more could she possibly do to sway her?
Anne clenched her teeth.
“ANSWER ME!!”

Summary
For Sasha, love is reminiscent of sour unsweetened lemonade—like the tears she silently swallows in brutal, guilty, penance.
She can only punish herself and dream of intimacy she no longer has the right to reach for.
She is too sinful for that.
For Anne, love is reminiscent of bitter unsweetened tea—like the feelings she can’t help but bury in favor of not ruining what fragile peace she and Sasha finally regained.
She can only helplessly crave what she does not deserve.
She’s too greedy to move on.
One night, as Sasha repents in a private, bloody ritual, she learns that with each pass of the knife, she’s cutting into Anne’s heart and soul just as much as her own.
One night, after finishing a round of graveyard shift lookout duty, Anne discovers how her silence lead to both her and Sasha becoming strangled by unspoken longing.
All a sour and bitter half & half needs is the perfect amount of sugar in the form of three simple words.
“I love you.”

Imprisoned within the mindscape at her lowest point, The Core leverages Marcy’s traumatic memories to persuade her into joining their “noble” cause of restoring Amphibia to its former glory in exchange for partial control of her body. Fearing her friends want nothing to do with her and she has nothing left to live for, will Marcy turn to a path of darkness to serve the Core?...
(This is a rewrite of the original Losing Marbles aimed to address the mischaracterization and remedy the 3-4 month timeskip that basically skipped Marcy's descent. As fun as it is to make our blorbo go fully on unhinged evil, We both learned it makes for a far better story if there is more conflict within her heart to challenge the Core’s constant manipulation.)
Also, this AU will feature a few original Core Member characters carefully crafted to expand upon what we know about the Core and serve the story.
