Luffy reached out to grab Zoro’s face, a familiar, invasion of personal space he had done a thousand times. But before his rubbery fingers could make contact, a calloused hand shot up and gripped his wrist.
The grip wasn't playful. It wasn't the fond, exasperated push of a first mate dealing with his hyperactive captain. It was a vice of pure, defensive iron.
Luffy blinked, his smile faltering.

Summary
Will Byers knew what he had to do. There was a reason why he had been taken all those years ago, a reason why he was different. A reason for why his neck would feel cold, why he could look through the eyes of the Demos and control them. Why he could kill them. He had to do this - he no longer could afford to be afraid, and so without looking back he ran.
Mike Wheeler knows he should trust his gut. Knows that when it tightens in fear, when it feels like he had just swallowed a weight - when it feels like something was wrong. He should listen, but he didn't. And now, now he was seriously wishing he did as he watched Will run off into the abyss, leaving him behind.

Fate played its games - they were only pawns in the universes grand game of chest. Perhaps in another universe the battle went differently. Perhaps El defeated the Flayer, perhaps their plan of attacking the beast with their guns and fire worked. Perhaps they were able to escape, having destroyed any and all traces of the upside down behind them. Perhaps in 18 months they would be crossing the stage to graduation, happy and no longer scared.
That wasn't this universe, and that wasn't how the story goes.

Mike doesn't see what's so great about Steve Harrington. It's one thing when Dustin was all over him, now he's stealing Will away. Will with his nice arms who doesn't want to wear his jacket, because he'd rather wear Steve's jacket even though Mike's jacket is just as good as Steve's jacket. Just because Steve helped them with the upside down doesn't make him cool. Steve is not cool. Honestly fuck Steve Harrington.
Otherwise known as Mike finally getting a clue only just in time for Will Byers to start crushing on Steve Harrington. Mike will not take this lying down. Obviously this means war

Mike watched the scene unfold with a soft grin growing on his face, but before he could join in his younger son twisted in Will's hold, spotting Mike and pointing an accusatory finger with a dramatic pout. "Daddy Mike had you all day! That's not fair. He betrayed me." He declared as he wriggled free from Will to launch himself at Mike next, his tiny fists pounding lightly on his chest in mock battle.
Mike caught him easily and in no time he was hoisting him up onto his hip with effortless strength, ruffling the boy's hair while chuckling at the feigned outrage.
"Hey, what? Betrayed? I shared him with you every other day. Give me a break, my boy." Mike teased, his voice warm and light, but the underlying fondness made his eyes crinkle at the corners.
