When given the wrong type of blood, humans can experience *extremely* adverse affects- up to and including Death. So what if the same can be said for angels (or archangels, rather) who bite off a bit more than they can chew where Grace is concerned?
Or: An AU version of what happened in that church. Because the Sam/Lucifer storyline deserved a better end than what we were given.

Summary
It’s funny how Sam openly said that he was ready to die, multiple times, and Dean never bothered to ask, not even once... Why?
Nobody ever asked why Sam was so eager to go with Death. If they had, he would’ve pointed to Charlie’s burning pyre and a town covered in darkness as evidence to help them understand why he shouldn’t be alive.
The worst part is, Sam knows deep down his brother agrees with this, even if he won't ever say it out loud without the mark on his arm.

Despite his best efforts, Dean was still having trouble getting used to Sam and Eileen’s partners. It wasn’t that he had an issue with the concept, although when Sam originally told him there were a tense couple of days of Dean being in shock. Sam had been pissed because, “Really Dean, you’re gonna have a problem with this after I had to live through eleven years of you and Cas making heart eyes before you got your shit together?” No, the problem really was who these partners were. Sam and Eileen seemed to have a tendency to fall for their sketchiest supernatural allies, which is how Dean found himself a very uncomfortable sometime host to both the Queen of Hell and an archangel whenever either of them decided to come and visit.
