Lena blinked and felt the tablet slip from her grip. Her fingers fumbled to keep it from crashing to the floor, and in that distraction she was able to keep her mouth from plummeting open in shock.
“You didn’t have a terrace.”
She knew this day might come. Would come. She’d worried through countless hypotheticals and iterations of hypotheticals and versions of those hypothetical iterations. She’d imagined the good, the bad, the painful, and the words she might say to soften the blow. There was only one constant in each and every version: it wouldn’t be easy. It would be hard. It might even be impossible.
It already was.

Summary
One day, two women meet on the subway. The recently dumped Lena is recovering from a broken heart, and Kara is grappling with the open-ish relationship she has with her long-distance boyfriend. They decide that they’re going to become friends. The kind of friends who also have totally casual, no-strings-attached, nobody’s-catching-feelings sex. What could go wrong?
As Alex puts it: “Kara. This is the dumbest thing you’ve ever done. And I’m including the time that you set fire to your own hair and nearly burned the house down trying to do some spell you found on MySpace to make Troy Bolton materialize in real life and marry you.”
Or: Lena and Kara go around New York City eating food and banging each other until their feelings eat away at them, and Alex tries not to have an aneurysm about it.

Kara looks up from the styrofoam container, already having broken apart her chopsticks. “So what?”
“What do you mean so wha—Kara!” Kara freezes, chopsticks hanging in midair clutching a piece of kung pao chicken. There is real frustration and confusion in Alex’s voice. “Imagine my surprise when I sign in at the front desk and the nurse says that my sister-in-law is stable right now. Wanna tell me why you’re playing house to visit your best friend in the hospital?”
Kara sets the chicken down. “Alex…”
“Kara, you have ten seconds to explain why the entire staff thinks you and Lena are married and the answer had better not actually involve marriage or I swear to god I’ll…”

In which Kara is a whole entire idiot, Alex is a permanent mood, and Lena is just glad Kara is there for her, as her fake wife, while she recovers from another quarterly attempt on her life.

So, yes. It’s supposed to be quick and straightforward and relatively free of complications because that’s the whole point, after all— getting to a time where things aren’t so rocky and telling Lena the truth doesn’t feel like such an insurmountable task. With Mxy’s help, she’d even thought that it might actually be easy. How was she to know she’d end up in a situation like this?
This time around, things are perfect. Lena is perfect— no she’s more than perfect. Kara honestly can’t have asked for anything better.
Until Lena kisses her. Lena kisses her, and Kara realizes that there are some things that she hadn’t even thought to hope for, not even in her wildest dreams.
And Rao— Kara really needs to re-examine her feelings for her best friend.
AKA, Kara accepts Mxy's offer to help fix reality one last time, creates a world where she has everything she's ever wanted - and kinda, sorta, accidentally ends up falling in love with Lena somewhere along the way. Oops.

Summary
Korra knows this is all moving quickly, much too quickly. They haven’t talked about what any of this means. There’s so much they need to talk about.
But the desperate urge to feel to keep going to do now think later is powerful. They’ve entered a (hopefully) new age of tentative peace, but Republic City is still in ruins, and it’s going to be an unbelievable amount of work to rebuild, and the urgency still thrums through Korra’s blood unrelenting and unceasing. Korra feels like she’s been tensed, poised on a knife’s-edge for three years, and the energy is building up inside of her and it has to release in one direction or another or she’ll explode. All the fighting from a week ago wasn’t enough, never enough, not a release so much as delayed gratification.
Korra’s thumbs hook into Asami’s underwear, and Asami pushes harder against Korra’s mouth.

"I mean- newspaper journalism doesn't have much flexibility for that, you have to get the information in as a priority- but I think I could write about- about this.". Nancy smiles over at her. The stetson she's borrowed shadows her eyes but she still squints with the bright sun in their peripheral. Robin wants to reach out, to place her palm to Nancy's cheek to protect her from the glow.
"Are you talking about the view?" She asks hoarsely, hand staying loyally at her own side.
Nancy doesn't answer, but her eyes don't leave Robin's.
