Summary
After another encounter with an butterfly-controlled animal, Chris realized he got a little closer to Adrian then he'd thought in the past couple of months. The new revelation has him stricken with anxiety, scared to ruin the fragile boundary between friends and lovers.
But he yearned for more out of this life, more than just to be a selfish killer that his whole justification was for peace. He wanted to start anew, and that meant taking leaps.
“A twosome.”
“Well what else am I supposed to call it? Usually it’s us Eifel towering some chick in the middle while you avoid eye contact!” Adrian exclaimed with a total straight face, not realizing the ridiculousness of that.
“It’s just sex, dude! We would be having sex!” Chris shouted with mortified eyes.
Adrian shifted his glance from Chris to the table and then back, “-And that can’t also be friendship bonding?”

Sometimes it felt as though Charles wasn’t seen as a mutant. It seemed they only acknowledged his abilities when they were needed or bothersome to the others. He’s been told he doesn’t understand what it’s like to hide a part of yourself that others fear or hate. He’s been told that he’s invasive when he reads their surface thoughts, when he responds to thoughts he assumed they said out loud with how loudly and pointedly they were thinking.

He would never see him again. Never feel the familiar touch of his mind against his own. Never watch the determined lines across his face as he chose his next chess move. Never see the way his gaze would flicker from the chess pieces to him when he thought Charles wasn’t looking. Never again. Charles was going to die while Erik was halfway across the world. He wondered if Erik would feel it somehow. Was it selfish of him to hope that Erik would feel the loss all the way in Genosha? At least that way Erik would be linked with him in the end, despite the distance.
He felt his pounding heartbeat begin to stagger, and he knew this must be it. Charles began to close his eyes as he heard the sound of someone running, and then the world was darkness and he knew no more. His last thought was of Erik, unknowingly going about his day in Genosha. Unaware that thousands of miles away, Charles was leaving him behind.
(This fic takes place a couple of months after X-Men: Apocalypse and is pretty much canon compliant up until then except for Charles didn't lose his hair fighting Apocalypse because that was stupid. Also, the reconstruction of the school took longer in this fic because good quality construction takes time)
