    4. Seido

    13. He’s not just a pitcher… Enomoto thought, swallowing, mask damp with sweat. He’s a problem. We’ll have to treat him like a real hitter next time.

    19. Miyuki raised an eyebrow, then turned to the upperclassmen’s table. “Anyone seen our noisy lefty?”

Isashiki caught the question and grinned. “Aw, looking for your pitcher, Miyuki?”

Kuramochi leaned back, smirking. “He’s in the bullpen with Chris-senpai. Looks like he finally got what he wanted.”

Miyuki’s brows twitched, but his voice stayed easy. “Oh? Didn’t even say anything to me.” He set his tray down and stirred his soup. “That guy’s really doing his own thing lately.”

Kuramochi jabbed, “Guess he meant it about throwing to Chris instead of you.”

Isashiki called over, “What’s this? Trouble in the Miyuki-Sawamura battery?”

Masuko wiped pudding from his mouth. “Uga. Looks like we’re watching a breakup.”

Ryousuke raised an eyebrow, dry as ever. “Your pitcher’s straying, Miyuki.”

Kuramochi snorted. “Can you blame him? Chris-senpai’s a saint. You’re... well, you.”

Miyuki took a sip of miso soup, not bothered. “Let him have his fun. I’m not getting replaced that easy.”

He leaned back, tone light but pointed. “I’m still the main catcher. He’ll still be partner to me in games .”

    21. Nearby, Miyuki was unclipping his chest protector, unfazed as usual.
“Don’t actually throw a meatball, dumbass,” he muttered mid-motion.

Sawamura stepped in, reaching out to help unfasten Miyuki’s chest protector. Miyuki paused, surprised, but didn’t stop him.

“…Didn’t expect that,” he muttered under his breath.

Sawamura’s hands moved automatically, practiced and precise—undoing straps, lifting the gear away like he’d done it a hundred times before. His expression was unreadable, but his touch was strangely familiar.

Miyuki watched him for a moment, quiet. “Your previous catcher must’ve been lucky,” he said, voice low. “Having a pitcher like you.”

Sawamura blinked, as if waking up from muscle memory. He gave a small, almost guilty smile. “Guess I’ve got some habits I can’t shake.”

    22. "I don’t really want to decide on the pitches for Furuya."

That sentence alone had drawn startled glances. Even Yuki's stoic face twitched. Isashiki looked like he wanted to say something.

"He’ll be extremely exhausted," Miyuki continued, his tone even, his gaze unreadable. "The opponents will probably get lots of hits off him anyway."

    The room had gone quiet.

Isashiki narrowed his eyes slightly. What a heartless bastard, he thought, not without a trace of admiration. Saying it flat like that... no hesitation at all.

Eijun sat on the floor in a daze, staring at the door that should have opened already. It was late, five days too late. His last game in junior high was over, so why hadn’t she come?

    Where was Rei-chan?

“There are a lot of mistakes I want to fix. A lot of things I wish I’d done better.” Eijun’s voice softened slightly. “But I can’t really do that, can I? So I’ll just have to keep moving forward… and make sure I don’t regret anything from here on out.”

For a moment, neither of them spoke. The night air settled around them, quiet but heavy with unspoken thoughts.

“There are things I regret not being able to do too,” Haruichi said after a while, his gaze lowering. “I promised myself that Aniki and I would make it to Koshien together… but I never got to do it.” His grip tightened slightly on the hem of his shirt, the words coming out softer than usual.

Eijun glanced at him, his expression shifting, but before he could say anything

“I also wanted to see how we would’ve done at Koshien with the previous third-years,” Furuya added. His voice was calm, but there was something resolute beneath it.

    Summary

But this is not the man who could understand and answer, and Yuuji is only met with sniffled out sounds. He looks down at this child who bears too striking of a resemblance than just those crystalline orbs of inheritance, at the wet cheeks and red nose. Then, slowly, he goes back to the other again. Another familiar face, another mirror. An existing impossibility.

    Yuuji closes his eyes.

    What happened?

    Then, to himself, he chastises.

    How did I not notice?

Itadori Yuuji lives on and the world keeps moving but it gets easier to disappear at least. He ends up closing his eyes sometimes to keep the exhaustion of long constancy at bay.

Then, on a cold, cold spring – a child's cry wakes him.
When he searches for the sound, he finds a familiar face.
No, no, actually, two familiar faces.
