Felix unsheathed the dagger. It was simple and worn, the scratches in the blade and in the wood of the pommel reflecting years of use. It was Sylvain’s that he’d had since they were children. The one that they had used to swear on promises they’d made all throughout those summers they’d spent growing up.
Felix rinsed the blood from the blade, exposing the inscription that Sylvain had etched into it before he had gifted it to him. ‘Til the day we die.
He re-sheathed it and set his jaw as he pulled himself to stand again.
He needed to keep going.
He had a promise to keep.

Summary
He should be comforting him, right?
That's what you're supposed to do, when someone loses someone important to them. You're meant to tell them that you're there for them, and show it at every opportunity. You're meant to hold them close and let them hide from the world, face tucked under your chin or pressed against your shoulder or buried into your chest. You're meant to show that you care.
Verso doesn't know how to do any of that.
It scares him, that he doesn't know when he forgot how to.
"Pick up your weapons," Monoco says, and there is no trace of anything light in his voice. He is seriously, deadly serious. "Now, Verso."

Summary
The original Verso may have died in the house fire, but his soul cannot rest when a piece is torn off to create another, painted Verso. He can only watch as his family struggles to grieve and are unable to heal.
To cope, he may make some stupid jokes and quips at his friends and family along the way.
