He mostly feels numb, now–all sensations of sadness and shock and anxiety that had previously overwhelmed him during and immediately after the phone call have since faded away, leaving him feeling devoid of everything human and a shell of himself. It’s almost like he’s outside of his body, floating while he continues through the motions of his day, exhausted beyond belief, vision strangely static-y while his hearing is almost sharper than normal.

Jeongguk felt Seokjin softly hush him, trying to calm him down, but Jeongguk couldn’t. Yoongi wasn’t here anymore. Jeongguk couldn’t try to protect him with his embrace, or press kisses into his hair, or do anything. He didn’t have the chance to hold Yoongi against his chest until he could almost feel both their heartbeats, or set Yoongi on his lap when there wasn’t enough space to sit. He couldn’t hold him after a nightmare, or carry him to bed after he had stayed too late in the studio, because Yoongi wasn’t there. And Jeongguk didn’t know if he’d see him again. What if Yoongi never returned? Jeongguk might not be able to cope with Yoongi absent. Gone.
Perhaps the worst part was the immortal memory of Yoongi’s panicked eyes fixed on Jeongguk, almost asking him to do something. Anything.
And Jeongguk failed.
