She can remember being a child, not yet old enough to recognize that his love for her was something dark, but young enough that she ate up every moment of it even though it sometimes felt wrong, sitting in his lap and listening to him wax poetic about her blood. He’d braid her hair and brush his fingers over her bare shoulders and tell her that the dynamic of their blood was a beautiful thing, another part of them that other people would never understand, just like how people would never understand his love for her.
“We’re soulmates, Alice,” he’d told her, rubbing his then clean shaven face against her cheek in a nuzzle. “We complete each other. We’re simply meant to be.”

I’m not sure if this counts, she found herself typing, but I grew up with the guitarist from Corroded Coffin. Middle school talent show, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes and we high-fived and then he never spoke to me again. Now, when creepy guys try to hit on me, I say oh no, so sorry, I’m actually dating a musician named Eddie. It’s technically true.
