After returning to Erid, Rocky is celebrated as a planetary hero. Ryland, rescued and physically depleted, is placed under Eridian medical care to treat severe malnourishment and vitamin deficiencies. His recovery was slow but consistent, mirroring his gradual emotional stabilization. Rocky’s former mate, Adrian, has chosen a new mate during Rocky’s absence. For pragmatic reasons Rocky and Ryland move in together. Ryland starts to teach and Rocky is a highly sought after Earth expert and space engineer. Slowly Eridian society interprets their life together as mating behavior. Rumors start.

In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.

Our boys attend a five-act French-Italian political opera. Hastings is just recovering from a bout of malaria and being fussed over by Poirot at home.
It all goes downhill from there with Aunt Agatha trying to set Bertie up with yet another marriage candidate, and an attractive widow trying to catch Hastings's eye during intermissions, all the while Hastings finds he may not have been totally recovered enough for a whole night at the opera. Poirot gets jealous.
At least Jeeves has the time of his life.
