Maddie reaches for the phone, and Chimney waves her off, shaking his head. “Depends. What exactly is it that I know?”
Another pause, followed by a sigh that just about says everything on its own. “I think I’m in love with Buck.”
Instinctively, he reaches out for Maddie, nodding, as he pulls the phone away and mouths "it’s happening" at her. He opens his eyes wide, which he hopes translates to about a million exclamation points tacked onto the silent statement.

And maybe, some awful, heartbroken part of him—this little thing inside of him that he’s been so scared to acknowledge—knows why, but it doesn’t stop the wave of guilt.
He doesn’t want to lose any of them.
And they’re all in that building.
And one of them is dead.
And all he can think is—not him. Anyone but him.
