"I just thought you would have made it a very special weekend," Nedzu pleasantly says and clasps his hands in front of his chest.
Shouta waits him out, prompts him to speak again like that and thankfully Nedzu does.
"What with your son's birthday and all."
And there it is, Shouta thinks with mounting despair and Nedzu gives him a look.
"Which you knew. Because it was in his file."
Right. The file. The file CPS handed to them after they applied to foster Hitoshi. The file that is thicker than Shouta wants to think about. The file he started to read and then had to stop shortly after because reading about all of the accusations and the sometimes only thinly veiled abuse Hitoshi had to go through had made him sick to his stomach.
That file.

"Peachy," he listlessly replies, his mood now plummeting for a very different reason as he swivels his head around to look at Katsuki.
Who isn't even looking at him, because he's still reading his book as if he didn't even speak in the first place.
And Hitoshi's chest aches.

Hitoshi is stalking through the halls of the building he spent the last two weeks observing, and it's going decently well, right until he rounds a corner and slams into someone so sturdy he stumbles a step back, his chest where he impacted with a shoulder smarting slightly and Hitoshi has just enough time to think "What the fuck" and "How the fuck" when a hand reaches for his face.
Hitoshi stops trying to find stable footing and stumbles back another step, expertly evading the hand and he finally gets a good look at his attacker.
Or would be attacker, because fucking hell.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" he hisses and Bakugou narrows his eyes at him.
