One evening, as Hizashi stirred a pot of noodles, Shouta came up behind him, resting his chin on Hizashi’s shoulder and wrapping his arms around his waist. It was a gesture so familiar that Hizashi barely registered it at first, it was second nature to him.
Then, it hit him, like a truck. This wasn’t normal. Roommates didn’t do this. Friends didn’t do this. His hands faltered, the wooden spoon falling into the pot.

“You look like shit.”
Hizashi snorted, unable to help himself before rolling his eyes in good nature.
“Gee, thanks,” he grumbled with the barest hint of a smile. “Right back ‘atcha.”
