Sapnap's hold on him tightens. Karl allows himself to believe, for only a second, that he doesn't want to let go either. "I know."
"No," Karl laughs, wet, and hopes the tear stains he's left on Sapnap's jacket dry before he notices them, "you really don't."
Sapnap is getting married. It shouldn't matter as much as it does.

Summary
Sapnap sinks into him like he's done so many times before, and they fit. Just like they always do. Just like they always will, even when the last traces of their time together fade from Karl's mind, even when Sapnap's touch becomes foreign and unfamiliar to Karl's skin, even when Karl leaves, leaves Sapnap with empty arms and an emptier heart, with a cold chest and the bittersweet knowledge that they'd been perfect, once.
Or, Karl forgets, slowly but surely, and there's nothing Sapnap can do but watch.

"Come over," the blonde pats the empty space on the branch next to him, sending George a grin that sparks a wildfire in his heart and leaves him burning, "you're just in time for it, too."
George thinks he'd gladly burn, especially if Dream's every little action is the fuel for the flames. He'd relish in it, even, find a home in the fire and turn to ash against the heat of Dream's lips. He'd let himself burn, but only if Dream's the one that burns him.
Three times Dream keeps his promises, and the one time he doesn't.

It's like they're driving around in circles. On a constant roundabout. But every time Dream tries to steer them to the exit, the path that will lead them to more, George takes the steering wheel from him and puts them back on that same, sickeningly curved road.

He doesn’t need to know the innuendos, he doesn’t need to know all the double layered meaning to it. George knows Dream too well, his heart too open, he says the words before they even leave his mouth.
“So, you’re the queen now?” George says, fiddling with the king in his hand.
“As long as you’re the king, of course.” Dream chides, looking down at the board,
“Does that mean you protect me now?” George smiles, impish and coy. He spins the piece in his hand.
Dream looks back up. “For as long as you’re King. I’ll be your Queen for as long as you want me to be.”
