Boris has freckles, he notices in turn, blinking wildly. Like Mike’s. But unlike Mike’s, they’re faint and tiny, like dots of paint from a flicked brush, only just discernable against his pale skin. In Hawkins, Mike backlit against the waning sun, the mismatch of dots would never garner a double glance because they were clearly freckles. The glances were for other things: the milk-smooth of his skin, the gentle curve of his lips, the relentless spark in his eyes soft with the crease of his smile when he was happy and which remained, even in the times when he would unknowingly bury daggers into Will’s heart. Boris, however—his eyes were hard even when he smiled. There was none of the innocence that lingered in Mike’s eyes.
