Summary
“I cracked the code,” Buck whispered with a grin, looking down at Theo.
Eddie turned his attention to Buck. “What are you talking about?”
Buck looked at him, the grin still on his face. “He won’t make bedtime easy, right?”
“Four-year-olds rarely do,” Eddie said, waiting for Buck to see where he was going with this.
“Well, I cracked the code last night, and it worked like a charm.” He said proudly. “I should write a parenting book.”
Eddie scoffed. “Aw, look at you, fostering a kid for five minutes and thinking you’re an expert now. That’s cute.” He shook his head and looked back at Theo. “Give it a few more months and then get back to me, okay?”
“Observe,” Buck said to Eddie as he walked over to Theo and settled on the bed with him.
OR
Buck has discovered a great way to get Theo to fall asleep within two minutes. So great that even Eddie is impressed. What Buck doesn’t know is that Eddie’s absolutely going to use that discovery against him.

Summary
“Eddie,” a familiar voice cuts through, and the sound alone almost makes him sob. He thought he’d forgotten her voice. Kim had a lot of elements of her, but not this, never this. Not her voice, not her laugh, not her.
Eddie squeezes his eyes shut, shoving the shirt harder against his side, grunting as another pulse of pain radiates through him.
“Not now, Shannon,” Eddie grits out, teeth clenched. “I can’t do this. I can’t—”
“You got something better to do?” Shannon asks.
OR: Trapped in an elevator, Eddie finally gets some closure.

Summary
What happens next isn't Buck's proudest moment, and he's not even entirely sure why he does it at all. Maybe it's because he's still shaking with adrenaline, aching and freshly bruised, smoke still heavy in his lungs. Maybe it’s because Chim's been back a week and still hasn't said a word to him.
But then, it could be that Buck's genuinely struck dumb by Eddie's audacity - that Eddie feels owed anything at all from him, that he thinks he can talk to Buck like that after leaving him the way everyone else has and does and will - it makes venom bubble up into his throat, hot and acrid.
"Firefighter Buckley to Dispatcher Diaz," he starts, his knuckles white on the radio, something mean and furious trying to burst its way out of his chest, "You don't get to say shit like that to me anymore."
-
Or, the story of how Buck and Eddie finally get together after Eddie leaves the LAFD and becomes a Dispatcher.
