At first it is just for memory’s sake, but one day she walks into Roman’s bathroom wearing his clothes. They don’t fit her, but they are so much nicer than anything she has to wear. She makes a vow to herself; from this day forth she will stop wearing makeup, she will cut her hair short, and if she can get away with it, she’ll wear pants. She’ll be closer to who she wants to be. She’s finally unmade herself and made someone better in its place.”

Roman twitches, and clears his throat. “What, uh… what would you say if I did want to? Hypothetically?”
She tilts her head ever so slightly, and her face softens. “I’d ask you which one? Hypothetically?”

All the things that are wrong with him seem to fester under his skin, linger in his bloodstream. He needs the poison sucked out of him like they do when you’re bitten by a venomous snake. He needs someone to split his stomach open and remove all the maggots and the rotted bits and replace them all with clean, shiny innards, until he’s brand new.
