Summary
As Caspian and Edmund are discussing starting a search party come morning, and Reepicheep is insisting that they press on, Lucy hears a very faint noise in the brush behind them. Just then something sharp and cool and likely metal has been set lightly against the back of her neck and a voice she knows almost as well as her own commands, “Don’t move.”
Lucy cannot see who stands behind her, but she doesn’t need to. She knows, though she can hardly believe it; stands frozen in shock as the others wheel round, reaching for weapons before they stumble to dumbfounded halts. Caspian is open-mouthed. Lucy is grinning.
Edmund says, wonderingly, “Susan?”

“High King,” your father corrects, something very like amusement warming his tone as his hand moves to tousle your hair. But then it fades quick and quiet into something you, in your youthful inexperience, cannot yet parse as the two of you gaze upwards at the stern stone visage.
At last, your father says, very softly, “Not as I knew him, no.”
