“Next,” the kid called out and Crowley stepped out of the way, “What can I get you?”
“An Earl Grey would be lovely,” the person next in line said, voice practically vibrating with excitement and joy, “Two plain scones. Oh, and some of that scrumptious looking lemon drizzle you have there. Thank you, dear.”
Once again, the kid stared, and Crowley couldn’t help but turn around and stare as well – a halo of curls so blond they looked white in the light of the sun, bright blue eyes that shone with unmasked delight, a smile so wide it was almost blinding. And beige. A whole lot of beige.
“Name?”
“Azra.”
If Azra was aware of the attention he was getting from both the barista and Crowley, he didn’t show it, simply kept on smiling a smile that kind of made Crowley want to do all sorts of unspeakable things, like ask for his number, like take him out to dinner, like curl up on a couch with him and eat ice cream straight from the tub while watching James Bond together, like –An asexual sex worker and a bookseller who doesn't sell books - stranger things have happened, for sure.

“Hey, angel,” the, by now, familiar voice of one Anthony J. Crowley sounded through the hallway and Aziraphale did his best to keep his face clear of any kind of emotion as he turned around.
“Yes?”
“Fancy a trip to Hogsmeade with me, next weekend?”
That, that right there, was the problem. Ever since the very first day, Crowley had tried to spent time with him and every time Aziraphale answered –
“No, thank you.”
And every time Crowley shrugged and smiled and walked away as if Aziraphale didn’t desperately want to say "yes! Yes, let’s go together. Yes, let’s do something. Yes, let’s be friends or maybe something more."
But he never did.

The first baby that Crawley ever held was Abel.
He held him awkwardly at arms length, unsure what he was meant to do with this small creature he’d been handed, whose head was now tilting backward at an odd angle. The baby let out a noise that Crawley knew was the prelude to tears.
“Don’t hold him like that, what’s the matter with you?” Eve asked, shifting Crawley’s arms until the baby was cradled in his arms.
In Eden, in the Ark, on the Dowling’s estate, Crowley makes friends, saves children, accidentally becomes part of a few families, and overall just gets terribly entangled in the lives of the human beings he cares for.
Aziraphale, in the meantime, pines.

“Oh, I’d think, surely…”
“What?” He leaned forward and rested his chin in his hand. The intensity of his gaze had Asa blushing. “You think I ask out any old bookseller I meet?” His gaze softened. “No. There’s… something about you.”
“Aziraphale,” they said. Anthony froze. He wasn’t sure why, but he felt his heart stutter in his chest. “Do you recognize that name?”
He couldn’t move from where he stood, one hand on the back of his chair, halfway on the way out. “I don’t– wh– nghk–”
“He liked books, and sushi. I think.”
The week Asa Fell met Anthony Crowley might be the best week of his life. It is also the strangest. After all, angels and demons, yellow eyes and infinitely large bookshops can’t be real. Or can they?
