Lily stares at her, jaw dropped open, until she realizes Haewon is desperately trying not to laugh at her. “Wha—!” She says, and watches Haewon burst into laughter. “That’s so mean!”
“Sorry,” Haewon says, though she doesn’t look sorry at all. “I guess you’re just stuck with me.”
“Ugh, I guess,” Lily says, pretending to roll her eyes, and Haewon laughs at her again, the low, deep, sincere laugh Lily has sometimes overheard when she’s joking with Yuna and the other trainees. Lily’s stomach performs several consecutive flips and cartwheels at the sound. The blue that drifts across then is lovely, a texture that pleasantly tickles Lily’s brain. She knows no one else’s laugh that does that to her— but then again, she knows no one else quite like Oh Haewon.

Summary

She doesn’t say which kind, but she knows they’ve both had them. It’s the kind where the weight of being left out isn’t in anyone else’s actions, only in the gap she doesn’t know how to cross. Where the warmth of the room makes her ache because she can’t quite find a way to let it in.
Rumi always thought her patterns would fade once the Honmoon was sealed, but they didn’t. And now they seem to respond to her emotions.
