Summary
Cliff knew that this probably violated the promise he made to Roz when he had given him a spare key. It was for emergencies only. He hoped he kept his key privileges after tonight.
Because throwing a surprise pizza/movie night in Roz’s own home for when he returned to Boston from his father’s funeral in Russia? That probably didn’t count as an emergency.
But fuck it. Roz was his best friend, and while his father may have sucked, it’s still awful losing a parent. Roz should have his friends here, waiting to support him when he gets back.
The only thing that could make this better was if Cliff knew who Jane was, so she could be here for him too.

“Shane?” His voice broke.
“Ilya…” Hollander started forward, moving past the group.
As soon as Roz saw him, everything else melted away. He didn’t look anywhere else, just locking eyes with Hollander, shoulders sagging with relief. His bag slipped off his shoulder to unceremoniously thunk against the floor.
“Moya lyubov',” He let out a rough breath and ran, fully ran, and bodily slammed into Hollander, their arms wrapping around each other tightly. It was only Cliff and St Simon catching them that prevented them falling to the ground.

Summary
Coming out to the Pike's was not the plan for the evening.
It wasn't even in the top 10 list.
And yet, here Shane is, sitting on their living room floor, having fought Rose Landry to get his phone back, and making a Face. He knows he is making a face, he can feel his forehead scrunching and his jaw aching and he can do nothing about it except wait for -
"So who's Lily?!"
Fuck.
This is mostly a series of vignettes focusing on Shane's friendships with Rose, Jackie and Hayden, in that order.

Rose groans, noisy and obnoxious. Sometimes it was so obvious she was the youngest of her family. "God. I have to break up with him, don't I?"
"Yeah." He pulls out of his stretch, laughing softly. "Besides, didn't you say he hates me? For like, no reason?"
"Yeah. Ugh. I hate that you were the one to tell me that, Shane Hollander."
Glad they aren't video chatting, Shane lets himself grin, smug. "Feels weird to have someone tell you something about yourself that should be obvious, huh?"
"...Are you seriously thinking you tied up the score here? You can't win a friendship, Shane! It's not 1-1 now!"
"Sure it's not."

Summary
Shane releases what feels like his first exhale in forever—Ilya Rozanov, taken out by the common flu. Not ignoring him. Not ending anything. Still, the knot in his chest doesn’t ease completely with the vision of Ilya unwell and alone in Shane’s head.
JANE
Are you at your house?
LILY
Where else, Jane?
JANE
Don’t fall asleep. I’ll be there soon.
LILY
No, am sick. I told you.
JANE
I heard you. I’ll be there soon.
Or, Ilya’s sick and Shane wants, and wants, and wants.

“You did not sign up to do unpleasant things with me. You like me but not like this,” Ilya mutters.
“What if it were me who was sick?” Shane demanded. “What if we were in the same city and I got the flu like you. Would you help me?”
Ilya rolls his eyes. “No, I would let you suffer alone, Hollander. See you next season, hope you don’t die before then.”
“Then why do you think it’s any different for me?” Shane snaps.
[...]
Ilya reaches for Shane’s wrist, caging it with his forefinger and thumb like a handcuff. He opens and closes his mouth, considering what to say.
“It’s like that for me, but I forget it’s same for you too.”
Shane swallows, feels his heart thumping against his ribs. “Well, it is so…”

"How long has he been on the fucking Raiders? One season? Two? Because I can work with that, I think. So long as he didn't want to be traded to those bastards-"
"They drafted him."
Hayden felt a little sick, because there wasn't many players who hadn't been traded since their draft. On the Metros, Shane was the only one. There was a similarly low number for the Raiders. "Shane," he said, trying to remain calm. "Besides the rookies, there is only three players I can think of that have been with Boston their entire careers. And those options are all going to give me a heart attack, but buddy. Please, please don't tell me Boston Lily is Ilya fucking Rozanov."
But there was a part of Hayden that already knew. Like a weird sixth sense or some psychic bullshit. But he was desperately hoping he was wrong, because if Shane fucking Hollander was dating who Hayden thought he was...he didn't know what he'd do. Flip the coffee table, maybe, if his daughter wasn't sleeping peacefully in the corner. Maybe grab a couch cushion to muffle his screams.

Summary
“Am I a bad friend?”
Hayden has always been the guy Shane joked with, the guy he trusted to feed him without mocking him, the guy he roomed with on the road, and Shane is the only man who has ever seen Hayden cry, and Hayden loves Shane. He fucking loves him. They are like brothers, and they have been for almost ten fucking years. He’s always been Shane’s guy, Shane’s best friend.
Except all along, maybe that wasn’t true. Ilya Rozanov, apparently, had been the guy. Before Hayden had ever met Shane, Ilya Rozanov had been there. And Hayden had never even noticed.
Shane is all over every inch of Hayden’s life. Hayden thought that was reciprocal.

Bookmarker's Notes
Hayden had always thought of it as one of the things they had gone through together, something that had bonded them early on, when he had been the one to linger in the locker room and had slung one of Shane’s arms over his shoulders and dragged him out to his car, carrying his weight.
He’d thought of it as something they had gone through together, but in retrospect, it’s so fucking obvious how alone Shane was.
Alone, on the ice. Singled out.
Hayden, on the bench, not realizing how bad things were, even when the evidence was right in front of him, not speaking up until it was too late.
He opens his mouth, trying to find the words. The laughter in the dressing room swells. They are surrounded by their teammates, and Hayden is a part of the huddle. What would he even say?
Hayden shuts his jaw with a click.
Shane looks away.
