megumi gets a little weird, at times, about being injured. no - about being cared for. yuuji would be so happy to take care of megumi, if he wanted. the problem is that the last thing megumi wants is for anyone to take care of him. even when he walks face first into the kitchen wall with his head raised, eyes open, in broad daylight.

the nicholas that loves him back is different. he loves him differently than euijoo wanted, but that’s okay.

“he likes to hurt me,” yuuji whispers, as megumi pulls up to the gate to his apartment complex. “it’s not as bad as it used to be. but i’m scared of him, i think.” he pauses and chuckles, a bit humorlessly. megumi is staring at him through the mirror, now, and nobara is blinking groggily. “i’ve never said that out loud before.” yuuji laughs, softly. once he’s pulled into a parking spot, megumi turns to look straight at yuuji. his eyes are more serious than yuuji’s ever seen them. nobara must think so, too, because she reaches over and takes megumi’s hand in hers.
yuuji wants to laugh, when nobara asks him if he is safe here tonight. he's not safe anywhere, ever.

sometimes, yuuji thinks he’s had one long, never-ending concussion since he turned 15. enter megumi and nobara, still nursing years long injuries of their own.

“it’s a long story,” nicholas murmurs, and before maki can find it in him to get angry, he adds, “but the surprise is ruined, now. i’m sorry.”
maki wants to tell nicholas not to apologize. he wants to yell at him. he wants to ask what the fuck has been going on with him. instead he tells nicholas to sit tight, and keeps him on the line as he drives to the hospital.

“what fucking investigators? what happened, euijoo?” nicholas tries to raise his voice, but it just comes out as a very angry whisper. euijoo shrinks back all the same. dr. walsh pulls up a chair and sits down beside nicholas’ bed. it feels strangely like when his mother came into his room as a child to tell him his grandmother had died. nicholas wonders distantly if someone has died.
“someone hurt you, nichol,” euijoo whispers, one trembling hand coming up to gently cup nicholas’ face. “but you protected yourself and you fought him off. that’s all that matters, okay?”
nicholas deflates completely into the bed, his eyelids heavy as he holds euijoo’s gaze. he’s too afraid to look down at his body. “i killed someone, didn’t i?” he asks weakly. everyone in the room knows the answer.

the first thing the doctor says to nicholas when he regains consciousness is, “you’ve lost a lot of blood.” it feels like he’s lost so much more.

“It’s distasteful,” Yushi says back to him. And Sion briefly wonders where Yushi learned the word distasteful in Korean. “You look like a loser.”
Sion frowns even harder. “Hey,” he says.
“Only losers pine after omegas they already have,” Yushi says matter-of-factly. “Loser alpha.”

Yizhuo nods conspiratorially, and lowers her voice to a whisper. "I heard if you go to the library at 11 PM while holding a 100% sugar no-ice Taro milk tea from Gong Cha, and whisper his name three times in a row, he appears."
"Okay," Renjun laughs. "You guys are making him sound like an urban legend, or something. He’s just some dude."
"Wow," Haechan says, gleefully. "I always knew you were a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but I had no idea you would go so far as to fuck our local campus cryptid."
(Or: Renjun hooks up with Jaemin Na, who is not-a-cryptid but is also not-not-a-cryptid, and it all spirals from there.)

"Please don't make me regret letting you in, and letting you help us." It's a distinct plea, cutting deep within Euijoo's chest, enough for his own breath to be stolen, becoming barely a molecule to push past the rain.
Euijoo strengthens his hold on the carrier, readjusts the jacket and hides a wince as he peels himself off of the brick wall, and when the other reopens his eyes, something in him awakens.
"There is nothing else I'd rather not do."
or; euijoo comes across an abandoned man and his child during a storm, and they create a small family of their own over time.
