Glimpses of flesh rush across his mind’s eye. His flesh is pale and goose pimples dot along the scars, indentations in the old and taut skin he calls his own. Then there is skin of a darker complexion than his, it’s smoother, younger-looking, better taken care of. The muscles in the back flex, they’re strong, lean. The bodies mix and meld together. Bucky’s body with Sam’s body, Bucky’s body on top of Sam’s, Sam’s body curling and bowing.
This is a dream, Bucky realises. He knows this to be true because the sensations are far off and distant, like phantom pains. They’re the opposite of painful. They’re delightful feelings, they make Bucky’s real and tangible chest heave, they make sweat bead on his real skin, under his real clothes.
