It is a truth universally acknowledged that in that particular moment, Arthur Franklin Parnassus was sorely tempted to grab Linus by the face and kiss him silly. So... what if he went through with it? Or: AU where the guesthouse/record player scene in chapter 12 ends a little differently. Which means, naturally, the rest of the book goes a slightly different way… yes the latter half of the whole dang book. I’ve lost sleep over this idea. Please humour me.

It's not like Martin's feelings for Jon were anything new, but they were safe as long as he knew that Jon would never feel the same way about him. Unrequited love was supposed to be poetic, with him aesthetically reciting his yearnings to a tape recorder. It wasn't something he had to do anything about.
Then Jon had to muck it all up by kissing him, of all things. Now it was something they were going to have to talk about. Now his feelings were no longer abstract and artistic, they were a fire that roiled inside him, burning him alive. Consuming his ability to think about literally anything else.
