Summary
“Okay, okay,” Buck concedes with a laugh. He doesn’t totally believe Eddie, because there’s no way his job holds any weight against a fucking rocket scientist. But then he looks down at Christopher who is rubbing at Eddie’s scalp as fast as he can, creating a soapy lather. Eddie is grinning as he reaches back to use the suds to style his hair into an exaggerated mohawk, twisting in his chair to pull faces at his son, and Buck admits to himself that maybe his job is pretty fucking important.
or
The one where Eddie outsources his hair washing post shooting, meets Buck, and learns to accept the good things in life.

Summary
Eddie lets him finish his toast and eggs so they can face each other before he talks again. “Can I do anything?”
His hand is still rubbing Buck’s shoulder, thumb creeping up his neck in a reverse image of the way he usually holds Buck like this, when his thumb presses into his pulse point and doesn’t move until Buck makes eye contact.
This, Buck decides, is infinitely more intimate, with how they’re pressed up against each other. “You’re already doing it,” Buck answers honestly with a smile.
—
Buck doesn’t tell anyone about his insomnia for six months. Eddie notices anyway, but neither of them talk about it until it’s nearly six am and he wakes up to Buck climbing in his bed—not having slept since before their 24-hour shift started yesterday. Eddie gets to show Buck how much he’s loved.

“My, uh. My dad’s had a heart attack,” he says, sort of like it hasn’t sunk in yet, “He’s still in the hospital, it was. It was pretty bad, I think.”
“I’m sorry, Buck,” says Chris, “Is he going to be okay?”
“I don’t know,” says Buck, “She wasn't. It wasn’t clear, it was, she was. She wants me to go.”
“Do you want to?” Eddie asks, quiet, and Buck’s eyes snap back to him.
“Eddie,” he says, wretched, “She wants me to help. She wants me. She wants me.”

Summary
Eddie has never put any faith in personality quizzes. Buck, however, loves them, just as he does every other curiosity-driven deep dive into the vast pool of knowledge on the World Wide Web.
“This one is different though,” Buck claims. He’s been trying to convince the whole crew to take a new test all morning.
“How is it different, Buckley?” Chimney asks from where he is slowly merging into a bean bag by Hen’s feet.
“It’s about Love Languages.”

Eddie's love language is acts of service and Buck takes full advantage of this information.

Summary
Eddie says, “Let's go home.”
Home, that doesn't feel like home right now, but is made so much more bearable by Evan Buckley and his heart of gold.
Buck clicks his seatbelt on, starts the truck, and lays his hand on top of Eddie's, over Eddie's thigh, and it's the easiest thing in the world for Eddie to flip his palm over so their fingers can slot together like puzzle pieces.
Or,
Five times Buck and Eddie hold hands, one time they do by proxy, and one time Eddie freaks out about it.

Summary
Eddie’s eyes are squeezed shut, and Buck feels something inside him crack when this helpless, devastated sob wracks his body, eyelashes clumped with tears he’s not letting fall.
“Fuck,” he says, wobbly. “I just—God, I feel fucking insane. I know, logically—fuck.”
“What do you need?” Buck asks again. “What can I do?”
Eddie makes a frustrated noise. “I don’t know. I don’t know why this won’t stop.”
“Okay,” Buck says, trying desperately to think of what he finds comforting when he’s in a bad place. Or what Eddie reaches for when he needs comfort. The answer is simple enough—a literal reach for each other, reassurance in the magnetism with which they lean into the other’s orbit. A hand on a shoulder, a press of bodies beside each other, a nudge of knees under the table. “Can I, uh. Can I touch you?”
or, eddie panics. buck holds him.

Summary
Buck keeps him everywhere. He’s smuggling him into every inch left vacant, because like this, he doesn’t lose him, won’t lose him. Like this, he gets to keep Eddie forever, even if it’s just the pieces and the memories attached. The reminder of him will haunt him and this apartment like a ghost. Because Buck can’t trap him in his apartment and force him to stay, he’d never ask that, couldn’t ask that, but he’s going to damn well do his best to salvage it in some form. He’s kidnapping Eddie’s shadow, no matter how much it hurts, and there’s no choice about it.
Eddie announces he’s leaving. Buck, naturally, begins a slow descent to madness.
[ALT. summary: Buck has resolved to be the greatest friend ever. He’s handling this move so well. And not at all being abnormal about Eddie’s house. Or Eddie’s belongings. Or, well. Eddie.]

Summary
“Someone referred to me as your wife the other day.” Buck started.
Eddie choked on air. His cheeks were so pink. Why did he blush like that? Buck was paler than him, and yet somehow he didn’t blush anywhere near as hard as Eddie himself did.
“Do you think of me as your old ball and chain?” Eddie asked, going along with the joke despite the frankly upsetting colour of his cheeks. How was this Buck looking in love with him? Obviously they were comfortable with each other, but still.
Buck gasped, his eyes big, his back straightening out as he got ready to fight with God himself on this topic. Eddie knew immediately the rant he had started, Buck’s mockingly serious voice raising as he stared Eddie down intently.
“I would never refer to my wife as the old ball and chain. You don’t hold me down, you pick me up, you dirty little bitch. You’re the wind beneath my wings. God.”

Summary
Buck glances at Eddie’s bedroom door one more time, almost like he’s willing it to open. But the door stays mostly closed and Buck feels himself deflate as he grabs his bag and keys.
He quietly closes the door and locks it behind him, and he’s just about to turn the car on when he frowns and realizes that he left his jacket in the house. He knows he’ll probably be back at some point tomorrow to get it, but he thinks about Eddie under all that mud. He thinks of his head on Bobby’s lap and Eddie’s name on his lips, screamed into the air. He felt –
He felt like his whole soul was being buried under the mud, and that’s what scares him the most.
Sighing, he gets out of the Jeep and decides to get his jacket, and if he happens to listen for any signs of movement from Eddie’s room for a few more seconds before he leaves again, then that’s between Buck and God.

Summary
“So, Jee,” Mommy says. “You remember how we visited Daddy at work before?”
Jee-Yun nods.
“Captain Bobby says you can come to work with me for a whole day!” Daddy looks excited, and Jee thinks about it. Daddy’s work is pretty fun, she thinks. Captain Bobby cooked some really yummy pasta, and Uncle Buck is always there, and so are Aunt Hen and Uncle Eddie.
“Will I be like a real firefighter?” she asks. “Like Uncle Buck?”
Mommy laughs, and Daddy looks a little bit annoyed. “You know, you could be! Or you could be a paramedic, like me and Aunt Hen, right?”
Jee-Yun thinks about it.
She chews a piece of cold carrot, then swallows it. “I think I want to be a firefighter. Parmemedic is too hard to say.”- Language:

Summary
“Eddie,” Buck murmurs, in a way that makes his stomach flip, his eyes squeezing shut momentarily.
“Yeah, Buck?” He answers, just as soft, like if he speaks any louder it’ll somehow break the moment they’re building together.
“I’m so tired,” Buck admits, his weight suddenly heavy against Eddie’s back as his arms slide around his waist, his face mashed in against Eddie’s neck. It’s not the first time Buck’s done it — he gets ridiculously clingy when he’s tired — but Eddie’s body reacts like it is, his pulse jack-rabbiting in his chest before kicking into high gear.
Or,
Buck gets tired and uses Eddie as a pillow.
