Summary
It’s been a quiet night, but, all things considered, a pretty good one.
Of course, within seconds of that thought appearing in her head, a sharp cackle reaches her ears from the hallway. It's Cassie's cackling, followed by Dana hushing her. There's no force behind it, though— only giggles.
Victoria rolls her eyes. She has half a mind to open the door and tell them to grow up. It's coming up on midnight, and if Victoria can hear them, everyone on Cassie's floor likely can.
(javadi overhears dana and mckay getting it on and things... escalate)

Summary
“Keep up, city girl!”
Cassie groans, licks sweat off her lip, and scrambles along the steep tangle of roots under her feet. They’re wet, squishing inside of her sandals, sand and pebbles scratching at her heels and between her toes. Her thighs and calves burn as she approaches the top of the hill, the dry bag on her back threatening to rip her arms off at the shoulder. The end of a red canoe pokes up into rustling leaves, telling her that Dana is, in fact, waiting for her.
(dana takes mckay camping and she's a baby about it)

Summary
When Dana Evans almost lets it slip that she is seeing Cassie McKay in secret, it's not totally her fault! In her defense, she has been drinking. In her defense, the kids these days are using so many different terms to mean gay that it's hard for her to keep up. In her defense, the young doctors and nurses are so gossipy that it's hard for her not to overhear them.
At a bar with the day shift crew, Dana hears gossip about the kind of panties that the young doctors assume Cassie likes and she drunkenly corrects everyone. Now they want to know why Dana knows what kind of panties Cassie wears. Dana's not used to people asking how she knows things...
Dana is screwed.

“Come home with you,” Robby repeats.
Cassie sighs. She doesn’t roll her eyes, but Robby can tell that she wants to. “Yes,” she says, speaking very slowly. “We want you to come home with us tonight.”

Summary
Cassie has this awful fleeting image of her lying there, stunned not by the pain itself but by the realization that getting back up was going to take a kind of effort she just didn’t know she had anymore.
The thought hurts. More than Cassie expects it to.
Because Dana should never have had to absorb that moment alone.
Because someone should have protected her.
Because it suddenly feels obscene that people like Dana spend decades holding emergency departments together with sheer will and sacrifice only to eventually become vulnerable inside the exact systems they’ve carried for years.
Cassie wishes, fiercely and irrationally, that she could take the fear out of her entirely.
Or: in the weeks after the assault, Cassie wonders if Dana will truly come back. If there's no other way to be certain, she guesses she'll just have to start checking in on her herself.
