It's very rare to find a fic that nails Kim's characterization and relationship towards his long-dead parents, even rarer to find one that delves into their personhood beyond the symbols of the failed Revolution. This one does a great job.

Perpetually enthralled by the speed of Harry's brain when he isn't occupied, almost like a flutter of wings... Love the banter so fucking much, they're both such freaks. Delighted by the different bird species personalities, by a depiction of Harry where he meets a part of his Before self and finds kinship in it.

The necklace breaks him out of the memory: Why are you here?, it asks. He is startled - he hadn’t expected the artefacts here to speak to him directly. “I’m here for you,” he replies, “to look at you and remember you and love you.” You don’t love me, the necklace replies, and Harry protests. You’re a communist and you think I’m fundamentally a distasteful relic from an exploitative colonial regime. She loved me, and you’re here because you still love her.
Off-duty, Kim takes Harry for an afternoon at the museum. Harry searches for part of himself.

Absolutely gorgeous way to explore worldbuilding! The voice of the museum so cold and so distant (and just as biased as its makers), the glimpse into Kim's wonder and values, all the ways in which Harry both knows Elysium and doesn't. The hope of learning something he didn't know before Martinaise. BRECHT REFERENCE TITLE. Mwah.
