Written for the zine Dark Fire 2 in 2007. This was back in the good old days of zines. To be included in this zine, the story had to have dark themes, rape, non-con, and the author had to agree not to put it anywhere else until a year had gone by. By the end of the year, I forgot about it! I never purchased a copy of this zine, but it's on Ebay if you want one! I wrote under my Star Trek name K'Chaps back then.
This story has a whisper-thin plot (thanks Ryan Reynolds) and includes a non-consensual sex scene between Kirk and Spock. I was sorely tempted to edit it, but decided not to change it at all. I don't write like this any longer, so it's an interesting blast from the past.
Summary: Kirk starts a project. Spock is very nosy, meanwhile, a plot unfolds that might see them all dead!

So, I love Astolat’s writing, always have, and on occasion, I re-read everything she wrote in POI. The one that sticks with me is One Way Glass, and I re-read all the other works that are adjacent.
Thing is: these fics usually make me go, but... what if John... did... this other thing instead, or what if Harold was...? It’s the classic fuck or die fanfic, or the classic, someone makes them do it fanfic. I want to explore it inside their universe, just a bit. I mean, where is Shaw? Is this first season? Is Bear around? I have so, so many questions.

Herald John shena Tale'sedrin is the King's Own, the highest Herald in Valdemar, but it all means nothing when his King is killed in a senseless accident. John sets out on a journey of self-discovery very damn reluctantly, leaving Rolan behind. He is more running away than running to, and it's his good fortune that he meets one Harold Finch. Harold is one of the famous horse-loving Ashkevrons. Unfortunately, he dislikes horses, and he's been on a self-imposed guilt trip for years. When he spots John on the road, he can't find it in himself to leave him behind, and John goes with him, but only until he can disappear into the mountains. That's his plan, but John has a few surprises in store. This is Valdemar, and that means chance and fate are all part of John's destiny.
