Summary
All he knows is that Pran’s glow is different. Different in a way that steals his breath right out his lungs. It wraps around him prettily- like it’s meant to be there- as if the sun itself had kissed him and decided never to let go. He finds himself drawn in, wondering what it would feel like to stand closer, to let that golden light wash over him.
Every other glow he’s seen today is just that- a glow. Flickering, sometimes soft, sometimes sharp, sometimes splotched with something else.
But Pran? Pran /shines./

The first time he heard that name, Pat, something shifted in the air; the salty breeze found him again, sneaking in through the slightly opened window as if saying a sweet greeting, a hello whispered by the air and the waves of the sea.
In hindsight, Pran knows that was the precise moment where things changed, when something called for him like a piece of fine gold shining in the sand, only just hidden briefly by the thin grains.
Now, though, in the present, the mention of Pat brings him nothing but confusion.

Pran swallows the lump that has formed in his throat. If he could, he would gladly sleep his life away. He’d wander from dream to dream and never wake up, not even once, not even if it meant giving up his real life and the few things that bring him joy in his sad little existence.
“Pat,” he manages to croak out. “You don’t even have to ask that.”
